New
Views of the World’s Technology Capital
At Silicon Valley Map & Calendar, we’re constantly developing
new products. This page features some of our more unusual directions,
such as holographic posters, historical
posters, and a testimonial to emerging technologies. As collector’s
items, these maps and calendars will serve as official records for
a critical turning point in history. Silicon Valley and its companies’
achievements deserve historic documentation that will remain visible
for many years to come.
Emerging
Technology Map & Calendar Silicon Valley is famous for its garage startups and spin-offs,
where freedom and entrepreneurial drive ignite new technologies and
ideas. That environment made Silicon Valley what it is today —
one of the most unusual business ecosystems on the planet, with the
greatest combination of brain power and talent the world has ever
seen.
Many of today’s unknown companies will become the leaders of
tomorrow. The 2001 Emerging Technologies edition of the Silicon Valley
Map & Calendar highlighted some of those companies and the technologies
they were developing. To emphasize this dynamic entrepreneurial landscape,
we used Digital Elevation Map data from the United States Geological
Survey to render the geography of Silicon Valley in three dimensions.
The view has very accurate contours of the San Francisco Bay area,
although we exaggerated the elevations for visual distinction and
artistic effect. Viewers can easily discern four of the San Francisco
Bay’s five bridges as well as other area landmarks and highways.

Holographic
Map & Calendar This unusual calendar offered a three-dimensional holographic
view of Silicon Valley when viewed with the special HoloPlay glasses
we supplied with each copy. Like the Emerging Technology poster, the
3D Holographic edition was also computer-rendered from U.S. Geological
Survey data — a unique and fitting way to explore the Who’s
Who of Silicon Valley. (Click

Historic 2000
Edition The Historic 2000 Edition highlighted the companies that began
the technology revolution in the last century and predicted where
they will go in this one. It’s a historical record that shows
Silicon Valley’s progress during the past 100 years. To build
the map, we composited recent photographs of the greater San Francisco
Bay Area taken by the Indian Remote and Landsat satellites. We then
emphasized major landmarks, roadways, and structures to create a detailed,
high-resolution image. (Click

The Historic edition placed companies among the most important moments
of history as Silicon Valley’s leaders. Our Official Records
of the Year 2000 are historical milestones and testaments to the 20th
Century.
